About this Hub
LaGuardia International Airport (KLGA) is located in the northern part of Queens, New York. It is the third busiest airport in New York City and the twentieth busiest airport in the United States. It is named after Fiorella La
Guardia who was the mayor of New York City at the time it was built.
A major reconstruction project is currently underway at KLGA. On January 15, 2009, the famous Miracle on the Hudson flight departed La Guardia Airport.
On that flight, Captain Chesley "Sully" Sullenberger managed to land a US Airways Airbus A320 on the Hudson River after suffering a total loss of thrust in both engines due to contact with a flock of birds.
Fun Fact:
LaGuardia has a unique perimeter rule that no flights are permitted beyond 1500 miles except on Saturdays and flights to Denver.
