About This Hub
LaGuardia Airport (KLGA), located in the northern part of Queens, New York, is the third-busiest airport in New York City and the twentieth-busiest in the United States. Named after Fiorello La Guardia, the mayor of New York City at the time of its construction, the airport has undergone significant redevelopment. In 2023, LaGuardia's Terminal B was named the world's best new terminal, making it the first in America to achieve the highest global 5-Star Airport Terminal Rating from Skytrax. The airport handled a record 32.4 million passengers in 2023, a 4% increase from its previous peak in 2019. Notably, on January 15, 2009, US Airways Flight 1549, known as the "Miracle on the Hudson," departed from LaGuardia, where Captain Chesley "Sully" Sullenberger safely landed the aircraft on the Hudson River after a bird strike disabled both engines.
Fun Fact
LaGuardia has a unique perimeter rule that no flights are permitted beyond 1500 miles except on Saturdays and flights to Denver.
